Also the anniversary of America's hard-won independence, etc. It's Barbecue Day in my family. Somewhat sadly, I am not a big barbecue fan. It's also Fireworks 24/7 Day, much to the distress of our dogs, although the street's been pretty quiet so far. I predict that things should pick up this evening, however. Also, Sister Girl and Pete are coming to visit sometime later, which should be fun. Mom was thinking about trying to go see Iron Man, but apparently it's only playing at one theater in town at 9:50 pm, which is a no-go for her. This is what happens when you wait too long to see movies, people.

CONNECTIONS TO CANON: Regularly has sex with Draco because she loves him, and thinks that it will make him love her. She is friends with Harry, Ron and Hermione. She is "with" Hermione and SPEW. Draco asks her to come to the Malfoy Manor with him over Christmas. Before she leaves Harry gives her a kiss good-bye. At the Manor, she sees Draco make-out with Pansy. Draco has feelings for Winter, but doesn't want to put her life in danger. After Lucius Malfoy beats her up, Draco tells her that he loves her, but has to marry Pansy. They decide to break up, and when she returns to Hogwarts she sets her sights on Harry. After Winter insults Pansy, Pansy Crucios her. Harry comforts Winter, and Draco wants to hurt Pansy. Then Pansy and Draco kidnap her to lure Harry into a trap. Some Dementors are going to come to give Winter "the kiss". Harry saves her, then they break up. After the break up, some chick named Gina shows up and tries to get Winter to go out with some random Slytherin named Gabe because Gina wants to date Harry. Then she is captured by Voldemort, who wants to lure Dumbledore and Harry into the Forbidden Forest. Voldemort tells her that he has impregnated her using magic, so she can carry on "the Dark Lords power". Harry and Dumbledore go to the Forest, where she jumps in between the crossfire of several spells, including Avada Kedavra. But they don't kill her, they hit her lockets. Then she goes to a "muggle city" to have an abortion. Harry, Dumbledore and Madam Pomfrey go with her. Then she moves out on her own, and rejects Draco at her doorstep for tricking her. Then she and Harry have a baby named Emma, and then Harry and Winter are killed in the exact same way that James and Lily were, and their daughter ends up with a lightning bolt scar.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: Is completely delusional. She has the "Inner Eye". Some sort of ancient protection magic protected her when she chose to save Harry's life by throwing herself in front of the spells.

NOTES: The ending was a complete crap-out. Apparently her computer died, so the last "chapter" was actually paragraph conclusions to all of the Suethor's stories.

Ok this story was about a girl whos little brother gets a stamp on his hand from a vampire which is slowly withering him away and no one can figure out whats wrong except this boy she goes to school with who has grey eyes and lives in a mansion up the road on a hill. He's a witch and comes from a long line of female witches 2 or 3 of which he lives with. Somehow they trick the psychic vampire into releasing her brother. Also I think The author may be either British or Australian. 

Caught this one at the Burger King where Tink and I stopped on our way home. Yes, that is artillery being towed by a pickup truck.

I was inspired by someone else wanting to find a book they hated. I hated this book so much I gave it away, and have wanted to re-read it to remember the cheesiness ever since.

A young, engaged couple, driving someplace, end up on an alien ship. The young man's very contemptuous of the aliens and the woman becomes very friendly with one of them, who seems to be looking after them in some way. The alien has rather a caring, paternalistic kind of attitude and appears to be male and the man becomes jealous of how close his fiancee is to him. It turns out that the alien has some sort of psychic power that I think he tries to share with the woman. He also turns out to be a hermaphrodite which I remember scares the woman a bit because she has pretty much fallen in love with him. The man's completely horrified and disgusted by the discovery that the alien is both male and female and can choose when to be pregnant (I seem to remember that the woman somehow gets him pregnant, but I could be imagining that bit).

It could be set or written somewhere between the 50s and 70s I would say by what I remember and the possessiveness of the man had an old-fashioned feel. The copy I had was probably ex-library and definitely black hardback.

As you can see it is rather a cheesy book, but I'd love to hunt it down at the library or someplace to re-read it and refresh my memory!

So my parents are off road trippin' to Las Vegas in a couple days. They'll be gone the 5th - 14th, and I want to make them a little mix CD to take along with them, but I need suggestions!

What are your favorite road trip songs?

My parents prefer stuff with more of an oldies/classic rock vibe, but I like forcing new stuff on them, so toss out what you can. :D Preferably with uploads.

Also, I need a copy of "Viva Las Vegas", preferably the ZZ Top version instead of Elvis if anyone has it. And maybe other songs about Vegas! (Sorry, Bandom Crew, "Vegas Skies" doesn't count. I haven't forced The Cab on my mom enough for that yet.)

First six pics are up, and I'm about to fall over. There's five of the 26th NC, mostly of Co. A which featured three of the guys who loved up on Tink at Chancellorsville. Because I'm partial to people who like my little grey dog, that's why.

The historical 26th North Carolina Regiment made the high point of the High Water Mark of the Confederacy: they got within 10 paces of the stone wall on Cemetery Hill at the apex of Pickett's Charge before a pretty much point-blank blast of artillery tore the already battered regiment to shreds and sent them reeling back to Seminary Ridge with the rest of the troops engaged in that terrible, glorious effort.

I just logged into LJ and saw the secrets weren't up. o_O Sorry, guys! Dunno where today's mod is.

In non-meme news, just as I was falling asleep last night, I was woken by the fire alarm in my room going off for several seconds. After much feeling of walls and ceilings, checking for invisible fire, I finally worked out the culprit – an ant, running around inside the alarm o.O

The scary thing? Neither Mum nor Tricky was woken by the alarm.

I've reached a kind of peace about some of the stuff that has been bothering me recently, which is nice.

The HBP pictures showing up everywhere are quite promising. I want to get excited, however we know that looks can be deceiving. The broody pictures of Draco that have shown up recently hold much promise and make me all the more excited that this significant subplot will really get the attention it deserves in the film. In a way it is like the first Luna pictures we saw, they did such great things with the character, I can only hope that they can do the same for Draco and then continue that momentum into DH, even if he somewhat wibbles out. But what we see in Harry's vision at the beginning and what is seen in the Malfoy Manor chapter say a lot too. I can't wait.
